Application of waterproofing and ceramic tiles on gypsum plasterboard and gypsum-based surfaces
Surface preparation
The surfaces that are gypsum plasterboard and gypsum-based are the surfaces which have a lot of absorbency and may deform. For this reason, before the insulation and ceramic tile application gypsum plasterboard surfaces must be securely fixed while the water absorption of gypsum-based surfaces should be reduced. The joints between plasterboard boards should be filled with PURASEAL 150 polyurethane sealant before application so that they do not crack due to movement. In order to reduce the water absorption of the surface, it should be primed with KONTAKT ASTAR at least 24 hours before application.
Application of water insulation
A suitable two-component IZOMAX® waterproofing product can be applied to KONTAKT ASTAR that was previously applied to the surface. The weakness in the connection lines on the floor, walls and corners should be reinforced with IZOMAX® PAH BANDs. Exact middle of the chamfer bands should be placed on the coinciding lines of the different surfaces which were primed with water insulation product that was applied by a brush or a roller. Each layer is applied in the opposite direction to each other. Depending on the temperature of the environment, the next layer should be applied after waiting 5-6 hours. After application, it should be allowed to dry completely for at least 7 days and leak tests should be carried out for 24 hours.
Application of ceramic tiles and joint filling
CERAMAX® FLEX adhesive that meets the requirements of minimum class C2 and S1 according to the EN12004-1 standard should be used in order to be resistant to deformation movements on waterproofed plasterboard surfaces. In wet areas such as bathrooms for long-lasting joint filler FUGAMAX® FLEX should be used which is silicone-based, flexible, and antibacterial.
