Application of decorative cladding materials on the facades of high-rise buildings
Surface preparation
Care must be taken to ensure that the application area is durable, dry, clean, dust-free and suitable for the next steps. The surface must be free of all oil, rust, thick lubricating oil and paraffin residues that will weaken the adhesion, the surface must be free of debris and the surface must be saturated with moisture. The surface should be primed with UNIVERSAL ASTAR to reduce its absorbency and provide a durable adhesion surface. Excess iron debris and wood chips must be removed and any gaps must be repaired on the surface two days in advance with a suitable TAMCRETE® repair material.
Application of ceramic tiles, joint filling and protection
When applying ceramic tiles and decorative cladding elements on the facade walls of buildings, weather conditions and the settlement of the building after drying of the materials must always be taken into consideration. Care should be taken not to leave gaps behind the pladding elements due to decorative elements or curvatures on the application surface. The double-sided method (the adhesive must be applied to both the ceramic and the surface to be applied) must be used during the ceramic tile application. When applying decorative elements, a horizontal expansion joint gap should be left every 4 meters or between floors. In addition, expansion joint gap should also be placed in all internal corners where the flat surface meets all the structural protrusions on the facade. The recommended expansion joint gap should be a minimum width of 10 mm. As the dimensions of the decorative cladding elements and the height of the building increase, the size of the joint width should be increased accordingly.
When pladding with natural stones in outdoor spaces, the adhesive should be selected by taking measures such as the size, weight, and absorbency of the decorative stone. When applying light-colored decorative natural stones, CERAMAX® FLEX WHITE adhesive class C2 with increased features according to EN2004-1 standard can be used in order to prevent the color changing of the stone. CERAMAX® ULTRA or CERAMAX® FLEX can be used on dark colored natural stones. For long-lasting joint filler application in wet areas such as bathrooms FUGAMAX® FLEX or ya FUGAMAX® COTTO should be used which are silicone-based, flexible, and antibacterial. IZOMAX® S420 or IZOMAX® S440 impregnation materials can be used to protect natural stones, directly, in outdoor spaces.
PURASEAL 150 polyurethane sealant must be applied to fill gaps in expansion joint gaps.
